The UK Government recently set a target to install Smart Meters in every home by 2020. At First:Utility we are already supplying homes and businesses with Smart Meters.

We are rolling out Smart Meters region by region, starting with home owners in the Midlands and East Midlands regions, with the rest of the UK to follow throughout 2010.

What’s so good about a smart meter anyway?
Ms Aron missed her Smart Meter so much when she moved home, that she wrote to us to beg for a quick installation in her new home. It’s not surprising that demand is increasing. Smart Meters are an innovative new technology that provide a clear picture of energy consumption, with research showing that they can reduce a household’s annual energy usage by 10%, and empower businesses to easily manage energy consumption across multiple sites.
Smart Meters make energy bills easy to understand by enabling us, the energy retailer, to provide you, the customer, with accurate monthly bills containing useful data. Each month you will have access to graphs showing your average hourly spend and a calculation of how much you have reduced your carbon footprint. This supersedes the current, unpopular, system of energy companies estimating your bills, often resulting in over charging.
A Smart Meter records gas daily and electricity every half an hour – that’s 48 electricity reads a day! The Smart Meter will then automatically submit the reads for you; the days of having to descend into a dark corner of your property to read your electricity or gas meter are over. Smart Meters have arrived. With this kind of data the customer will always be right.
