Consumer Focus is an independent body that deals with the issue of fair pricing since energy prices were deregulated, and offers advice in the energy and postal services in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. To find out more or to receive advice simply call them on 08454 04 05 06 or click here for information on Consumer Focus.
Created by the combination of three regulatory bodies in the UK namely, EnergyWatch, PostWatch as well as the National Consumer Council (this includes Welsh and Scottish consumer councils) they make a formidable force working for consumer rights. Consumer Focus works on behalf of consumers to ensure that they get a fair deal when it comes to rates.
The establishment of Consumer Focus began with their Forward Work Plan which sets out their missions and goals which include creating alliances with organisations and individuals that are key to assisting them with their core functions. Once the organisation has set the groundwork they will become fully operational as a consumer voice.
Consumer Focus, although they offer advice, is not simply an advice bureau. They are also not regulators since these were removed from law. Instead they deal specifically with consumer complaints and any other issue regarding poor service delivery in their speciality sectors. As the largest consumer protection agency, Consumer Focus has been given greater powers when it comes to resolving consumer concerns. These extend to being able to extract relevant information from service providers required to fully investigate their cases. Once they have found reason to do so they also have the ability to lodge formal super-complaints against service providers.
With these kinds of legislative powers and the combined resources including a staff complement of 170 strong, Consumer Focus is in the best position to handle fair practices in the energy and postal sectors.
