Utility Bill Increases Is The Leading Worry For Consumers In The UK

A major concern for householders is their ever increasing energy bills.
Utility bills that keep rising is the single biggest worry for consumers in the UK, in a study by Neilson, it was found that 15% were worried compared to a year ago of 8%.
The findings of the survey were revealed after energy companies such as EDF, NPower, British Gas are facing a backlash over the increases in utility bills.
Nielsenís measures consumer confidence and their spending intentions in a global survey, they measure the major concerns, and the spending intentions of consumers in each financial quarter.
The data was conducted in the first three months of 2013, and the company saw more than 29,000 users on the internet from 58 countries around the globe who were questioned.
It revealed that the UK consumers 1st and 2nd concerns were financially related issues. The top 6 concerns were:
Nielsenís managing director, for Ireland and UK, Chris Morley,said, that it was hardly surprising that finances were the dominant concerns.
Mr. Morley continued that about one in three consumers in the UK donít have any spare cash after they have paid their living expenses, this is more than one in five from the whole of Europe. It also found that nine out of 10 consumers have the idea that the UK is in a recession.
Amongst the consumers who said the UK is in a recession, only 15% think that the UK will be out of it over the next year. The energy sector has stated that it was improving the information that it will disseminate to the customers.
Energy UK spokesperson, has said that they understand peopleís concerns with regard to increased costs of living, which is why their members are working at providing clear, and good value tariffs, to help consumers to reduce their energy bills.
The spokesperson continued that the relationship between the consumer and the energy provider was vital, and that they were working at improving their information, so that their customers, are able to choose the right services for them.
Other concerns that were revealed in the survey were health (10%) education of children (8%) balance of work/life (7%) and welfare of parents and happiness.
