The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy announced last Thursday that the UK ranked first in the world’s twelve largest economies for its reduction of pollution in the industry, buildings and transport. Medal power house America was placed 9th because of its volume of gas guzzling vehicles. Germany was placed second and Italy third in the race and one of the biggest carbon polluters China was placed sixth together with EU and Australia. Canada came in eleventh and Russia Twelfth. He said that energy efficiency ranked in the heart of the UK’s policies of encouraging low carbon growth. Although UK ranked first, its performance was only 67 out of 100, which means there is still room for further efforts to achieve higher cuts in carbon emissions.
