The Gas System is Comfortable in the UK
By Anne Lewis-Schneider
According to the Market Report the UK has linked up with the Netherlands and the gas situation in the UK is as a result in a comfortable position. The result is that contracts are running lower than they have for a while according to Npower’s Tom Matthews. For a while the gas flow to the UK was limited because of unexpected downtime from a processing facility in Norway, but this too has been resolved. Tom Matthews has also said that the power system is stable with gas compensating for low wind energy supply.
Oil prices have increased in the USA because of the freezing weather they have been experiencing and there is a high demand for heating oil. Mr Matthews has however said that there could be disturbances in gas supplies ahead as Norway will be conducting tests on its compressors at the Troll field. He says that this could last for a few weeks and that Npower is keeping an eye on that situation for developments as this could have an effect on gas prices.
