Redbridge 8th Most Efficient Borough
By Anne Lewis-Schneider
Redbridge is a borough of London that has just earned the accolade to host a number of new environmentally friendly projects after being judged to be in the top ten efficiency rankings for energy right across the UK. Being an energy efficient local authority is a coveted title awarded by the Imperial College of London in an academic study that has been titled Benchmarking Urban Energy Efficiency in the UK.
The council of Redbridge introduced a variety of measures like external wall insulation, more efficient boilers and loft insulation to help the residents of the borough. The area has become cleaner and much greener with recycling projects on the go, energy efficiency measures being installed and numerous other methods being employed to make the place worthy of the top ten.
Environment, Transport and Crime Minister Shoaib Patel has said that Redbridge are very proud of their achievements to date. He is happy to announce new projects that will only add to this success story. These projects include a tree planting programme, a play park, compost bins for residents, a litter clean-up and two extra allotments for local primary schools. The total amount earmarked for these projects is £50 thousand and will come from the environmental Development Reserve Fund for the year 2013 to 2014.
