Increasing Energy Bills Crippling British Manufacturers
By Anne Lewis-Schneider
British Manufacturers are battling under the ever increasing energy bills that they have to pay. According to Npower and Industry Group EEF companies have to invest in managing down these spiralling costs, with 96% of companies polled saying that they had to focus on reducing energy costs. 88% have said that the costs of electricity into the future are a serious concern. And 67% voiced concerns over gas prices as well.
Even the most advanced companies have to plough funds back into energy efficiency measures which come off the company’s bottom line. It is an on-going battle for companies to remain competitive but EEF and Npower say that companies have indeed managed to reduce costs and increase energy efficiency by around 40% whilst still maintaining their levels of output. Energy intensive industry appears to be suffering the most according to Vince Cable who is UK’s business secretary.
