Funding for Energy Efficiency – UK Industries Team UpBy Melanie van der Poll The GDFC (Green-Deal-Finance-Company) will provide funds to all suppliers involved in the program called the Green-Deal, which will provide consumers with a way to invest in home-energy efficiency by counterbalancing installation payments through savings on bills. Paul Davies, GDFC lead partner said that by minimizing the finance cost to accredited Green-Deal providers, the market that is created will be highly competitive and will compete on costs, lifespan, reliability and also technology. He continued by saying that the measures that are included in the deal will be maximized and potential providers will not need to ask where the finances will come from. Companies that will participate include United Kingdom energy suppliers E.ON, British Gas, SSE, EDF Energy and RWE Npower. The consortium expects local authorities, installers and suppliers to join soon. Installations are expected to begin under the Green-Deal in autumn 2012. A quarter of the carbon emissions in Britain come from the energy used when heating homes. Britain is planning to reduce carbon emissions by 34% before the end of the decade, compared to the 7.4% reduction in 2010. |
