Ecotricity the Green Energy Company in UK Wind Output Is Up To 18 Percent In 2011
By Cynthia Taylor
Ecotricity has announced yesterday that their wind output is up by 18% during 2011, an increase on the previous year.
The company operates from Scotland to Somerset with 16 wind farms of which 61 wind turbines produce almost 123.8 GWh over the past year. This is an increase of 104.6 GWh, the company says itís because of the stronger winds. This capacity was sufficient to power more than 37,500 homes in the UK.
During 2011 there were full months that that green energy contributed almost 10% and wind power contributed 5% of Britainís electricity needs in total said Dale Vince, Ecotricityís founder.
Mr. Vince said that the UK should be making more out of its resources, which has accounted for 40% of the European Total of green renewable energy.
Mr. Vince continued by saying that the UK is the ĎSaudi Arabiaí of wind energy, which makes Britain a potential to become an independent producer of energy.
This year Ecotricity has plans of building 19 new turbines across 5 sites in the UK; this will increase its capacity by a further 50%. The company also intends looking for planning permission for a further 78 turbines, with this capacity it will be able to power approximately 100,000 homes in UK.
The company over the next 3-5 years expects to be able to reach a total capacity of more than 200MW, funding coming from their customerís energy bills and £10 million that has been raised through an Ďecobondí scheme during December 2011.
